About Us
A Vineyard church advancing the kingdom in the Halifax area.
Vineyard Church Halifax is a church in Middle Sackville part of the Vineyard Canada and Global Vineyard family of churches. We are a down-to-earth group who enjoy one another and love welcoming people into our church family. Known in the HRM as the "ice cream church" because of our Ice Cream Hut, we also run the well-loved Preschool Indoor Playground .
Our History
The Halifax Metro Vineyard church was birthed in 1988 in Sackville, NS. Having just begun a new church, pastors Steven and Sharon MacPherson and Larry and Karen Levy, along with Glen and Peggy Lucas, attended a Power Evangelism conference in Birmingham, Alabama. It was there, being impacted by the powerful intimate worship, the practical teaching of John Wimber, and personal prayer ministry, that God said, "Welcome home, this is your family." Shortly after, we had a visit from Kenn and Joannie Gullicksen, pioneers of the Vineyard name and movement, who were church planting in Boston and helped our new community become part of the Vineyard movement.
Like most churches, we have had a number of very distinct seasons with special emphasis and new ministry partnerships. For five years we met in the North End of Halifax and served women and children through our Lambs Lunch outreach. In 1997 we returned to our roots in Sackville, bought land, and in 2002 built our Family Ministry Centre. We have operated a very busy Ice Cream Hut, Avodah Cafe, and Preschool Indoor Playground. God led us to developing international Vineyard partnerships in Rwanda and Burundi. In the last number of years, He has connected us to the persecuted church and we have forged new friendships with Iranian believers.
Having come through Covid and various other struggles, like most churches, we are at the beginning of a new season. We pray God strategically connects us with those seeking a life with Jesus, believers who are new to our area and are ready to serve, as well as new immigrants who are looking for a church family.
